19th – 23rd November 2025
There’s been a lot of buzz about Te Arai Links since it launched its sensational South Course, designed by Bill Coore & Ben Crenshaw, in 2023, to rave reviews – only for them to back it up 12 months later with the exciting Tom Doak designed North Course. We want to share the excitement with you on our 2025 Escorted Tour to Te Arai Links.
Te Arai Links
Approximately 90 minutes from Auckland, these pure-links golf courses are situated on the North Island of New Zealand within the small community of Te Arai and are set alongside a pristine white-sand coastline. Both courses were included in the world’s Top 100 courses in their inaugural years, much like their neighbouring ‘big sister’ golf course – Tara Iti. When Tara Iti, another Doak designed course, became private after receiving incredible international accolades, its owner Ric Kayne, decided to develop Te Arai Links to ensure that the beauty of the area and its prime positioning for great links golf, could still be enjoyed by a wide audience.
With two golf courses located on one property, you might expect a lot of similarities between the courses, however the South and North courses at Te Arai Links provide two very different golfing experiences. The South Course has sixteen ocean view golf holes and eight holes directly bordering the sea. It is set across expansive natural sand dunes, that show off its blindingly beautiful (and photogenic!) coastline. The course runs firm and fast, and whilst you won’t find any traditional bunkers, instead you will contend with large and dramatic natural, exposed sand-waste areas. The South Course is fair, fun and walkable and appeals to all golfers.
The North Course plays very differently to the South. Whilst it starts and finishes in spectacular style on the ocean, it weaves inland between great forests of pine trees and dramatic natural bunkers, shaped by wind and time. Tom Doak’s signature use of the natural landscape rings true here, as does his penchant for risk-reward golf. The greens, some quite large, but partially hidden from view, require a considered approach, but often feature sneaky relief areas in their surrounds enabling a clear shot at the pin … these are amongst many things you will discover along the way and take with you to perfect your next round on the course. Once on the greens, you can expect interesting green shapes in sometimes elevated locations, along with all the dips, slopes and undulations you’d expect with a course designed by Doak, who works so closely with nature.
One thing is for sure though – both courses will surprise and delight you! As will the resort itself. Featuring a minimalist design, this beautiful and stylish resort will tick all the boxes and provides truly world-class luxury.
A trip to Te Arai Links is sure to be one of your most memorable golfing experiences!
And (if that wasn’t enticing enough!) to make sure you have warmed up properly for the experience, the first stop will be a round of golf at Auckland’s Titirangi Golf Club – an Alister MacKenzie course ranked consistently in New Zealand’s Top 10. Titirangi is a fun and exciting course that is easily walkable and has played host to numerous New Zealand Opens.
